“For Christmas, I purchased mosaic crosses for all the special women in my life. Each cross was unique and matched each of their personalities! I couldn’t have been more pleased, and I enjoy seeing them hanging in the homes of my family.”
“Katie’s work is truly evocative of the desert. I love that you can find landscape images in her finished pieces! I have a gorgeous wine cooler in deep blues, and a succulent pot in browns and pale blues. Katie is super friendly and will work with you on custom pieces. It’s great when you can just message her and she will send you photos of what she has in stock right that minute. Katie is great to work with; love her ceramics!”
I have bought several pieces from Sombrero Peak Studio. Each pot is unique and makes a great gift. Her signature crosses are beautiful and inspiring. Katie has also done custom pieces for me by request. She spent time to understand what I needed and then let her creative vision take over. You won’t be disappointed!”
“What I love about my Sombrero Peak Studio pieces are that they are hand made one of a kind works of art. I love the blend of colors that is used that reminds me of the desert sunsets. Each piece is versatile and is always met with compliments. It also helps that Sombrero Peak is owned by a very beautiful spirit who pours herself into each and every piece. You won’t regret your purchase.”
Katie Kokoskie has been a studio potter for over 20 years. She received her BA in Studio Arts and Business from the University of Pittsburgh. Kokoskie was looking for an adventure and headed out west to pursue a master’s degree in art education at the University of Arizona. Once Kokoskie finished her masters, she began to teach high school visual arts as well as producing wheel-thrown vessels in her studio.
“Each ceramic vessel is uniquely individual! The Sonoran Desert is a sea of overlapping green hues with splashes of vibrancy for all to discover and enjoy. This is my daily inspiration which guides my working hands and comes through my finished works.”
In recent years, Kokoskie has been inspired to create mosaic works after several trips to Lourdes, France. “When I sit down to create a mosaic work, I think about the “part of the story” that I want to share with the recipient of the work. The imagery, color choices, and cuts are deliberate. The creative process is a meditative dance between my mind and working hands. The Holy Spirit guides my work. Each work contains an element of faith such as radiating rays, cross, and white dove to name a few. Gold and cobalt blue colors are predominantly used.”
As a working artist and highly qualified visual arts educator, Kokoskie’s joy comes from collaborating with others through the art making process. “I love brainstorming with customers about ideas, colors, and use of media in order to create a uniquely individual work where my customers are active participators.”
Kokoskie has sold her work in various places including the Rincon Valley Farmers Market (Tucson, AZ), Feminine Mystique Art Gallery (Tubac, AZ), and now currently selling in the Tucson Botanical Gardens (Tucson, AZ), 6ix North (Dillsburg, PA)
and Salty Strokes (Ft. Myers, FL). Kokoskie also teaches private pottery lessons on the wheel and welcomes new students in all age ranges!
